#TishsTuesdayTip: Use the Yoast SEO Plugin on your Website for better rankings on Google!
If you have a WordPress website then ensure you are using the YOAST Seo plugin
Many sites already have this installed, it’s probably the most popular SEO plugin you can get for WordPress and is absolutely the best!
What is Yoast?
Yoast is a plugin which provides you with a place on every page & post in your website, to add meta data – the stuff Google loves! Meta Data in its most basic form is simply the following:
- Focus Keyword
- SEO Title
- Meta Description
I’ve created a quick 5 min video to explain in more detail.
The Focus Keyword helps you identify, for yourself and your readers, what your page is about, and what you would like to get found in Google for. It’s not the only thing that will help you get found online but it’s still important.
The SEO Title is the Blue sentence/title that you see on search engine results page. His is important as Google reads this to understand more about what’s on the page. You have to write a description that makes sense and is reflective of what’s actually written on the page
The Meta Description is an area that you can complete to let the searcher know what the page is all about
Other features of Yoast
Yoast also provides us with a Readability Analysis. It prompts you to improve your content for better ranking on Google. Follow every step or suggestion and you’re onto a winner!
It has a Traffic Light system, so you can see if your content is getting a green, amber or red ‘light’ – simply keep improving to get the green, or at least the amber light.
Social Media Sharing – if you would like to edit your titles for Facebook & Twitter, Yoast allows you to do that too. Simply select the social sharing icon and add your detail, plus a specific featured image, as you like.
Once installed and configured, the plugin submits your Sitemap to Google – an essential part of getting found there!
